Psychological Assessment

Psychological assessment can be a useful addition to therapy to help better understand the needs of an individual, to aid formulation (a shared understanding of therapeutic needs), and to guide the process of therapy.

Assessment can also be the key factor in seeking therapy when diagnoses are sought for psychological conditions.

In my work, I use a range of mental health assessments related to anxiety, depression, hopelessness, shame, trauma, personality, and relationships. These include:

  • Dissociative Experiences Scale - Revised (DES-II)
  • Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS)
  • Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II)
  • Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI)
  • Reasons for Living Scale (rfl)
  • Young Schema Questionnaire (YSQ)
  • Borderline Symptom List 23 (BSL-23)
  • DBT Ways of Coping Checklist (DBT-WCCL)

I also have formal training in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of a number of assessments for which specific training/certification is required. These include:

International Personality Disorder Examination (IPDE)

The IPDE is a semi-structured clinical interview devised to assess the personality disorders defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (DSM-5) and the International Classification of Diseases 10th Edition (ICD-10).

Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale - Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV)

The WAIS-IV is a cognitive assessment designed to measure intellectual performance. A number of areas of intellectual functioning are assessed including verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory, and processing speed.

Autism Diagnostic Interview - Revised (ADI-R)

The ADI-R is a structured interview used to aid the diagnosis of autism. Assessment results can be used to guide subsequent treatment planning, and can help to distinguish autism from other developmental disorders.
